The PBN

We, the Pfadfinder*innen Bund Nord in Hamburg, are a youth organisation that is based exclusively on voluntary work and independent of any political parties, religious institutions and adult’s association or organisation. We consist of more than 1100 members between the ages of 9 and 25. At the moment there are 19 so-called tribes (“Stämme”) which are based in several houses all around Hamburg. These tribes that count between 30 and 120 members are divided into groups.

Our groups are a fellowship of four to ten young people aged 10 to 15 years. They are lead by young adults under the principle of “Youth Leading Youth” and aim at complete equality within the group. When founding a new group, the leader is commonly around 16 years old.

The groups meet once a week and craft, play, sing or eat; whatever we feel like doing. 

About once a month there is a weekend trip into the surrounding land of Hamburg. In summer these trips go out into nature with our black tents. Everything one might need, we carry in our special backpacks and we try to get by without the use of any electronic devices. In winter the trips are mostly to other scout-houses in ne around Hamburg.

Every year in May our whole association comes together for a collective trip packed with excitement and adventure. 

The highlight of every year is a longer trip during the summer break. It is between one and three weeks long and takes places in other European countries i.e. Sweden, France or Hungary.

All these trips are planned self-responsibly. On our summer-trip we cover a self-chosen route; mostly on foot, other times in a canoe or on bikes. In the evening we search for a nice place for our tent and everyone falls asleep quickly but happily after cooking together.

Our group-leaders are all in possession of the “Jugendleiter|in Card – Juleica”. They all pay the same membership fee as everyone else. The groups are lead exclusively voluntarily. The Pfadfinder*innen Bund Nord is a recognised carrier of the independent youth welfare after §75 SGB VIII.
